Entering the second half of the Metro League season, Beaverton faced Liberty once again. Inclement weather moved the game to a Sunset High School’s turf field where both teams were prepared to play rain or shine.
Last Friday on the 28th, Jesuit held their annual Nike Twilight Relay track & field competition. With state and districts coming up in the next couple weeks, Beaverton athletes have stepped up their game as the final stretch approaches.
In one of last home meets of the season, the track and field team gave their all in the meet against Century High School. The weather held out for about 20 minutes once the meet started but still, the team fought and took the win.

Jesuit High School has always been a notorious team in both the Metro League and the state of Oregon due to their talented athletic programs. However, Beaverton Baseball put their name to the test last Tuesday, April 11, when Jesuit came to battle the boys on their home turf.
The 2016 state champions boys’ lacrosse team is working hard to make it back to the top of Metro and rank high in the state. After the 2016 season, the Beavers lost key players such as Matt Hockman, Nate Oekerman, and Carter Olson. The beginning of the year looked promising for the Beavers with seniors Raphael Bittar, Nate Johnnie, and Mitchell Senour manning the field. Unfortunately, in the first game of the season, Nate Johnnie tore his ACL to end his season early.
At the first invitational meet of the season, Beaverton Track and Field made a big impression in Newberg. There were many personal and season records made during this event and all of the competitors are ready to continue to improve as the season progresses. The weather conditions during the meet were far from perfect. All of the athletes were fighting off strong winds and heavy rain from the moment the first event began, but many persevered.

This year’s varsity team is composed of nearly all seniors, giving the experienced Beavers an advantage over the rest of the Metro League. These all-star seniors consist of committed college-bound players including Karac Leyva, Trace Hokkanen, Kevin Watson, Callan McRae, and Josh Binkerd. The team’s solid batting lineup and unbreakable defense have made it impossible for opposing teams to defeat them.
This year's competitors for powder tuff and powder puff may look a little different than we’re used to, but it is sure to bring out the competitive team spirit in everyone. The senior boy's football team will be playing the freshmen girls, while the senior girls volleyball team will be playing the freshmen boys; no one else gets to play. Understanding that Beaverton high school is full of traditions, it is really important to honor them by completely changing them.
