Updates on the demolition of the Merle Davies Building

Last year, all faculty were told to clean out their classrooms in the Merle Davies Building (MD). MD was mostly emptied when some students volunteered to help. After the school year ended, they continued to clean out the building. They began to put portables in the parking lot of the West Annex. The teachers began to move their things into the portables, but some of them had to move into shared rooms in the main building. Film making, yearbook and some of the student leadership all had to share one room. After the students came back from their Summer break, MD was completely sealed off with no open entrance to the MD building.

It’s sad that BHS will soon be destroyed, but it will come back looking better than ever. The demolition of MD is set to begin in winter 2023 or spring 2024. It will be my last year at BHS, so I definitely want to get it demolished. Construction will begin in July 2024 after the seniors graduate. The new building should be open for the 2026-27 school year.
