March twenty-fifth, what’s the plan?

Rocio Avalos, Staff Writer March 15, 2017
I was half way to cape lookout with a couple of friends when I realized I had forgotten to tell my mom I was going out. There was no obvious signal so I just didn’t pay any attention to it. When we got to Tillamook I right away send my mom a message and told her to not worry about me, that I was going on a getaway for a couple of days. Little did I know she would call me as soon as she got the text message. “ Where are you? Does your debit card have enough money? Who are you with?” After a whole interview, my mother was fine with me going, well I mean it’s not like she could do much I was already at the destination.

Moonlight: the rightful recipient for best picture

Milcah Tefera, Staff Writer March 9, 2017
It isn't often that I find myself leaving a movie theater feeling so moved as I did after I saw Moonlight. After watching this film, I can almost guarantee you'll feel the same.
As February comes to an end, its important to know the significance of the month, to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of black figures.

The truth behind Black History Month

Milcah Tefera, Staff Writer March 2, 2017
February is almost at its end which means Black History Month is nearing its end as well. Hopefully, you’ve noticed that February is Black History Month, and is recognized as such every year in the United States. What started out as a mere week to acknowledge black excellence, turned into something much greater over a few decades.
Remember to study hard in whatever classes you decide to take! Youll get out of it what you put in it.

Forecasting for the future

Noelle Charbonnier, Staff Writer February 15, 2017
As forecasting is coming up in February, students should take into careful consideration what classes they’d like to try, what classes they think would be beneficial to them, and most importantly, what classes are required in order for them to graduate. Underclassmen: I know it seems far off, but your senior year will be affected in part by what classes you choose to take during your first years in high school. That being said, here is some advice from upperclassmen who have been in your position.

What Hummer boys seek in a significant other

Brady Rogers, Senior Editor February 14, 2017
Valentine's day has approached quickly with little forewarning. Many people have forgotten the importance of it, and more importantly, how it helps give an excuse to talk to the person we are interested in. To celebrate, the boys in the Hummer staff decided to put together what they wanted most in a significant other.
Dont worry if you dont have a someone to shower with gifts and candy this Valentines Day, a Hummer girl could be perfect for you.

Finals week: You made it, what’s next?

Emma Rosicky, Staff Writer February 11, 2017
Congratulations, Beavers! You made it through the first semester of the 2016-17 school year. You’re halfway there and you’ve come so far, but there may be things you can do to make your second semester go a little more smoothly than the first.
Happy New Year, and happy same you.

New year, same you

Milcah Tefera, Staff Writer February 4, 2017
It’s finally 2017, which means it’s the time of year that many people desire to improve themselves, their lives, and relationships through resolutions. However, hardly any resolutions are actually kept.
Trump represents hope for many Americans who feel disenfranchised. Which is funny, because the majority of them are some of the most privileged people in the US. Also, how would someone who runs a multi billion dollar company know what its like to be a rural farmer in (insert southern agrarian based economy state here)? It makes no sense.

Trump says “you’re fired” to Sally Yates: A step away from democracy and women’s rights

Lizzy Elkins, Senior Editor February 2, 2017
Sally Yates, an Obama-appointed Attorney General (AG), was released from her position as a result of her refusal to comply with Trump’s recent “Muslim ban.” Trump said “you’re fired” to her on Jan 30th, with a White House Statement released that said she ‘betrayed’ the Department of Justice on the same day.
March for all, not for one

March for all, not for one

Alona Arneson, Staff Writer February 1, 2017
I’ve protested in many different forms, on several occasions, whether it be through the newspaper or in my life. Although this act of minor demonstration has become a part of my routine, never have I been a part of a movement as momentous and massive as the Portland Women’s March. Being around thousands of people who value equality and love enough to march for it, not only brought me comfort in this time of despair, but also a deeper appreciation for the “blue” state we live in.
