Senior Jason Valtierra shines in his last high school soccer season and earns a 2nd Team All-Metro title.

Senior Jason Valtierra is a diligent athlete and outstanding leader for the boys’ varsity soccer team both on and off the field. His incredible performance this season earned him a second Team All-Metro title as a forward and center midfielder.

Valtierra was presented with more challenges this year, being one of the oldest players, but he persevered and ended the season as an excellent role model for his younger teammates.

“It’s a lot more pressure, but it’s also extremely fun because you get to help out the younger kids and you’re a big role in coaching them,” he said.

The star athlete was a huge contributor both during games and in moments unnoticed by fans. To motivate his teammates, Valtierra insisted communication was essential. They had frequent talks during games and practices to inspire them to be the best competitors they could be.

“My teammates are everything,” said Valtierra. “I’m going to miss them a lot.”

The senior plans to continue his soccer career after high school, hopefully at Portland State University.
